On the following five sites you receive comprehensive information about persons who resisted Hitler. Nikolaus Groß is at the centre of the first three sites. Site 1 shows him surrounded by persons that he personally knew - from the Cologne circle, the men`s spiritual welfare in Fulda or persons that he cooperated with in the Ruhr area. An additional link provides you with further information about the resistance activities in the Cologne group that Nikolaus Groß belonged to.
On 23rd Januar 1945 Nikolaus Groß was executed - together with nine other men. Site 2 commemorates their lives. Here you also receive information about the men and women who helped the prisoners of Tegel and an impulse for a commemoration which is ecumenical. The site closes with a speech of the German chancellor Dr. Hemut Kohl on 23rd January 1995, the 50th anniversary of the execution.
Nikolaus Groß was a son of the Ruhr area. Many streets in the Ruhr area remind us of him and of other personalities who - on the basis of their Christian faith - fought for the dignity of man. We have included their pictures and biographies into this site so that they are not forgotten.
With site No. 3 the scope widens. The internet links on this site enable you to inform yourself about the biographies of men and women in the German resistance and about the victims of National Socialist dictatorship on the homepages of the memorial places in Berlin and elsewhere. Apart from that you find a list of selected places of commemoration in the diocese of Essen.
Finally you find one site which is dedicated to all victims of dictatorship and totalitarianism which could not be included in sites one to four. You can send us a photo or a short text, and we will include this biography here on this site.
